At Pangea Speed hanger time stops when the crafting begins. Andy Carter is a perfectionist building motorbikes with a great balance of design, quality, usability and price. He is also one of the major organizers behind the second annual Salt Flat Social.
Today we take a look at the ‘Zion Express’, which is something very different to what we have previously featured. This bike really is one of a kind, and pushes the boundaries of contemporary custom bike design. This bike is not just for the shows it’s also Andy’s personal ride; we have added a cool video, which shows this bike in action, a fully functioning rideable machine! (Click here for video).
The engine on this ‘Zion Express’ started life as a 1972 Harley Davidson Sportster with a four-speed transmission, this was later replaced with a big twin 5-speed. The engine was mounted on a rigid Flyrite frame with custom mounts. Certain parts of the ‘Zion Express’ are hand crafted with steel including the gas tank, air cleaner, front and the rear bodywork and the sissy bar. The bars on this ‘Zion Express’ are Pangea streamliner and the bike also has Andy’s hand made headlight lens capsule.
‘Zion Express’ features a single radial mount Tokiko 4 piston caliper installed to Ferodo floating disc for great performance breaking. The bike rolls on stock Harley-Davidson mags fitted with Firestone tires.
In addition to building custom bikes, Andy also specializes in building custom handcrafted parts, which include, kicker pedals, license plate brackets, streamliner bars, zephyr bars, carburettor guards and seat-builder kits. These are all available on his site in limited quantities.
